Chapter One
Skyla was busy that morning as usual. Being a natural born wolf gave her partial nocturnal senses leaving her to wake up around two o' clock in the morning. Sometimes her brother would accompany her on her daily hunting trips to catch fish in forest nearby. However her brother, unlike her, did not need to go hunting as often since he was only a partial wolf. Today was one of the days when Ethan did not accompany her, leaving Skyla to go hunting alone for an hour until she ate her fill and returned home to start cleaning and baking."Oh why can't time go by faster?" Skyla asked herself for what seemed the hundredth time that morning. The clock read six fifteen; still four more hours till anyone in the household would consider getting up. The bagels that Skyla was cooking started to fill the kitchen accompanied by the hot chocolate and coffee smells. Skyla tapped her fingers impatiently and started to read the newspaper.
This was a last resort to Skyla; normally Calub would be the first to read it since he always read the news. Then Jacub would get the paper and turn over to the crossword puzzle section until Stormy got impatient and snatched it away from him and hastily turn over to the weather section. When at last Stormy was content that his father Pegasus sr. had not been using his Wind magic around the area, he would give the paper to Anon who immediately turned to the jokes and comics section. After Anon had learned all the jokes by heart, he would make paper airplanes and let their puppy Nicky demolish the papers into confetti and make a mess on the clean kitchen floor much to Calub's distress.
This was on a regular and calm morning.
A loud squeak then got Skyla's attention; at first she thought it was Nicky who was playing with his chew toy, but he was snoring upstairs in Casey's bed. Cautiously Skyla went over to the window to see if something was outside. Her suspicions were correct; there were several grey vans and cars parked all over the street. Each van seemed to survey each house and out of every car a person dressed in an inconspicuous manner, except for their gray cuffs which gleamed in the rising sun, stepped out to look into the houses.
Usually Skyla would have thought nothing of it but there had been a lot of weird run-ins with them before. There was one particular time when Stormy, Ethan, Peg, and herself went driving in Stormy's car to go to the forest and the meadows which were a few miles away if they went though the road leading from the back of the house. Most of the time Pegasus, Ethan, and Skyla would go walking to their destinations making races in between but today Stormy had decided to come therefore introducing the car.
"C'mon don't be lazy Stormy boy. We always go walking besides it's good for you," said Skyla twitching impatiently in the back seat. Her wolf senses were kicking in and since it was five twenty-seven in the morning Skyla needed to release her energy.
"I'm hungry," Ethan and Pegasus both complained in perfect union.
"That is why we are going both to the meadows and the forest, be patient." Stormy said driving as slow as ever.
"But I am hungry in my human form," Pegasus said.
"Me too," agreed Ethan.
The reason that they all had to go to the forest and meadows was because their true forms as animals needed to be exercised and fed. Stormy and Pegasus's true forms were both horses of the Wind being sons of the first winged horse Pegasus sr. One curious thing that they could both do were change the color of their coats and camouflage their wings to appear like normal horses.
Stormy's main coat choice was blacker than a night without stars, clouds, nor even a moon. Pegasus often modeled after his older brother but did put white stockings on his legs from time to time or a dash of white on his back. Always something unique in Pegasus's own way. However, the two brothers had that special quality that normal horses would never have. Their eyes were filled with knowledge that no one could posses with such sincerity and kindness as well. When they walked it seemed as if they became a part of the air to move with it. Quick darting steps always eager to go on their own paths.
Skyla and Ethan were both wolves; however Ethan's true form was also as a half human while Skyla was a purebred wolf. The reason for this contrast was because their parents were both true wolves but they had Ethan while they were in their human forms.
Ethan and Skyla had the same copper eyes, and basically the same coppery-brown coat color; that was mainly all the similarities that they both had. Skyla had a major attitude and hardly any patience at all. Whereas Ethan had more patience and listened to what other people had to say.
Ethan was always in his brotherly mode trying to rein in Skyla from her rambunctious attitude so that she wouldn't get into so much trouble. However as always Skyla got her way and managed to get into trouble no matter what Ethan tried. Yet as part of his brotherly duty to his sister, he persisted and rarely did Skyla listen but when she did it was enough to encourage Ethan to keep trying.
"Don't look at me that way!" Stormy ordered his deep blue eyes flashing with irritation hearing Pegasus and Ethan whining and looking at him with huge puppy-dog eyes.
Stormy was going so slow that now a total of twelve trucks and forty-nine cars had driven past them. Skyla had counted them all.
"Stormy!" Skyla now joined in with the complaining, "we are going too slow."
"That is it!" he yelled sharply turning to exit the road. Stormy was now driving much faster than necessary; this meant that he was angry or happy but it was probably because he was angry since he was hardly ever happy.
Stormy parked outside a local fast food restaurant and handed the boys a twenty dollar bill saying, "Fine, go and order something to eat and then come straight back here and no other interruptions. Remember I'm watching you very closely."
"So we order the food and come back here to eat it?" Pegasus asked trying to make the order clear.
A sharp glare went to Pegasus as Stormy slowly and dramatically turned around from his seat. Skyla was almost sure she could see steam come out of Stormy's ears. Or maybe it was just a bit of mist that had sneaked into the car.
"Absolutely no food or beverages in my car. I don't even want the smell of the food in my here. Understood?" Stormy demanded.
Ethan and Pegasus nodded only now noticing the smell of new car inside the vehicle.
"Well go and hurry up!" Stormy ordered.
Pegasus and Ethan were only too happy to oblige as they scurried out the door to subside their hunger.
"Aren't you going too?" Stormy asked Skyla who was idly staring around until Stormy spoke to her.
"Ewww! No thanks my stomach can't eat that!" Skyla exclaimed sounding offended. "Wolves aren't meant to eat human food as frequently as regular humans. I don't know how Ethan can stand it."
"Huh, and I don't understand how Pegasus can eat that much human food as well. Horses aren't even carnivorous!" Stormy scoffed as he moved the car under a tree for a little shade.
That was all that Stormy and Skyla spoke until it was six-seventeen in the morning; Stormy was now exceedingly impatient.
"What is taking them so long?" he wondered out loud drumming his thumbs on the...
