Beschreibung

Some grubbiness to back cover along UPC Code due to old sticker backing. Cass Evesham, one of the rare women traders, has a shocking weekend. Her lover ends their affair, and the press besiege her with the news that the grandmother whom she thought dead, is a celebrated murderess, just released on parole. Livia Claughton, now in a safe house under an assumed name, finds it difficult to accept help from those who can't imagine the horror of 25 years in prison - long punishment for a very different crime from the one for which she was convicted. Julia, actress daughter of the famous singer killed in her prime, is determined to restart her flagging career - and feed her hatred - by starring in a theatre season featuring plays of revenge - the publicity could hardly be greater. Inhaltsangabe:

Three women seek to escape the clutches of the past. Cass Evesham is reeling from the abrupt ending of an affair when she gets even more shocking news: the grandmother whom she thought dead is a celebrated murderess, just released on parole. Cass' grandmother, Livia Claughton, moves into a safe house under an assumed name. The last twenty-five years in prison have been long punishment for a very different crime from the one for which she was convicted. Julia Gainsborouth, actress daughter of the famous diva killed in her prime, is determined to restart her flagging career-and settle some of her demons-by starring in a cycle of revenge plays. In a Cumbrian village, remote from London, their stories intertwine in a fast-paced, powerful novel that explores questions about the roots of violence and the potential for change.
