Thomas Howarth is the man who ""discovered"" and presented to the world the work of Scotland's most original architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Howarth was a modern polymath-scholar, architect, historian, art collector, and a teacher who nurtured talent and recognized genius. This biography tells of Howarth's early years in Lancanshire, the ""Mackintosh years"" in Glasgow, and his forty-three years as Professor of Architecture at the University of Toronto. This beautifully illustrated life contains numerous unpublished documents and letters from Mackintosh, Margaret MacDonald, Herbert McNair, and Joseph Hoffmann, as well as Howarth's correspondence with many of the world's great modern architects.
