The importance of the anaesthetist cannot be over-stated. The role continues to evolve and anaesthetists now have contact with the majority of patients admitted to hospital, not only providing the conditions under which surgery can be performed safely, but also playing a major role in preoperative assessment, postoperative care, pain management, recognition and management of the critically ill, and resuscitation.

This third edition of Lecture Notes: Clinical Anaesthesia has been fully revised to reflect the changes and recent developments within anaesthesia and medicine, particularly for trainees. In addition to providing a broad introduction to the specialty of anaesthesia, it includes chapters on intensive care and resuscitation, and how to deal with that all important problem of responding to a call to manage an acutely unwell patient on the ward. Colour diagrams, photographs, and key fact boxes support easy understanding of key information while, new to this edition, are chapter specific self-assessment questions designed to test your knowledge and focus learning.

Written specifically for medical students and junior doctors on the Foundation Programme, anaesthetic nurses, emergency physicians and operating department practitioners, Lecture Notes: Clinical Anaesthesia can be used as a core text or as a supplementary revision resource.
