Inhaltsangabe: Clara, a free-spirited prostitute in Buenos Aires who is full of vague plans and dreams, tries to shield herself from an ominous world. Answering only to her own laws, she reacts with inner strength and may even save herself from certain death. Clara mixes social commentary with tender humor, capturing a segment of humanity in Buenos Aires during the turbulent 1950s.
Über den Autor: Luisa Valenzuela is one of Latin America's most recognized writers. Clara, her first major novel, was originally published by Harcourt Brace Jonanovich in 1976, Valenzuela is best known for The Lizard's Tail, Black Novel with Argentines and Symmetries. Nearly all her books have been published in English in the U.S. The LALRP is presenting Clara in a new translation. Andrea Labinger is a professor of Spanish at the University of La Verne, California where she also directs the University Honors Program. Labinger received her master's degree and doctorate in Latin American Literature from Harvard University.
