"Citadel" is a gripping historical novel set against the turbulent backdrop of the Caribbean in the early nineteenth century. The narrative follows the adventures of John Bush, a young American whose journey leads him into the heart of the burgeoning Haitian state during the reign of Henri Christophe. As Bush navigates the treacherous waters of maritime trade and political upheaval, he finds himself drawn into the shadow of the monumental Citadel Laferrière, an enduring symbol of resistance and power.

Combining elements of high-seas adventure and romantic intrigue, the story vividly recreates the atmosphere of a world transformed by revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. The narrative captures the lush landscapes of the West Indies and the stark reality of life aboard sailing ships. Through its depiction of historical figures and the dramatic clash of empires, "Citadel" offers a compelling look at the complexities of freedom and ambition in the New World. This work remains a significant example of early twentieth-century historical fiction, blending meticulously researched details with a fast-paced tale of courage and discovery.
