Her groundbreaking work in the 1940s and 50s set the standard for the appearance of women's magazines in ensuing decades. Now Pineles, whose archive is held at Rochester Institute of Technology Special Collections, is the subject of this second publication in the RIT Graphic Design Archives Chapbook Series. This volume's vibrant reproductions of pen-and-ink sketches, fashion layouts, and gouache illustrations will orient readers to RIT's extensive Pineles Collection. The book also introduces Pineles's personal history through essays by Estelle Ellis, and Carol Burtin Fripp.
Über die Autorinnen und Autoren:
Estelle Ellis is the author of "At Home With Books," "At Home With Art," and "The Booklover's Repair Kit: First Aid for Home Libraries." She is also President of Business Image Inc., which has developed marketing plans for Vogue, Glamour, House & Garden, and Brides. In 1944 she collaborated with Helen Valentine and Cipe Pineles to launch Seventeen Magazine. In 1992 the Smithsonian established an Estelle Ellis archive in the National Museum of American History.
Carol Burtin Fripp is the daughter of designer, Will Burtin. Cipe Pineles adopted Ms. Fripp subsequent to her marriage to Will Burtin. She is now a producer at Canada's TV Ontario.
