Christ in Men…Today is a breath of fresh air in men’s devotionals. Its strength is in a structured approach—52 weeks building spiritual muscle—that invites men to grow steadily without being overwhelmed. The weekly format is user-friendly and strategic. Each week tackles a key character quality modeled by Jesus. By focusing on only one at a time, the reader is encouraged in gradual, consistent growth rather than being bombarded with too much at once. It’s designed to serve as a daily guide for personal study, but also flexible enough for men’s groups to dive into for more in-depth discussions using the Sharpening My Sword guide included in the back of the book.

Supported only by Scripture as the final authority, Thornton’s writing is both practical and deeply spiritual, offering wisdom that feels like a mentor’s voice speaking directly to the heart. It’s kind of a “been there, done that, rubber-hits-the-road” language that speaks to men primarily, but also women, in a direct, no-nonsense tone that resonates without sounding preachy. He doesn’t shy away from the difficulties men face, whether in family life, work, or personal battles with faith. Christ in Men…Today is a powerful tool that urges men to take their faith seriously. The combination of scriptural depth and real-life applications makes it one of the best devotionals available for men seeking to build spiritual strength and mature in their walk with Christ.
