Children of Communism takes you inside 1980s Romania, seen through the eyes of a child growing up under one of Europe’s harshest communist regimes. Every day was a test of courage, creativity, and survival in a world where freedom was forbidden, and truth had consequences.

Food was scarce. Fear was constant. Yet even in the shadows of dictatorship, families found ways to laugh, love, and dream.

In this deeply personal memoir, Radu Brylynskei recalls his childhood before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall — a time of rationed bread, whispered jokes, and quiet acts of defiance that revealed both the fragility and the strength of the human spirit. Through vivid stories and personal photographs, he offers a rare and heartfelt glimpse of everyday life behind the Iron Curtain.

Whether you grew up in Eastern Europe or simply want to understand what it was like to come of age under communism, this book will move, educate, and inspire you to appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted.
