For more than two decades, Ally Shaw buried the nightmares of her past deep beneath the surface. The former opera singer slowly lost the sound of her own voice, performing the painful role of a “people pleaser” until the dam finally broke—releasing every suppressed memory in a single, catastrophic rush: the rape, the incest, the cancer diagnosis, the chronic illness, the divorce, the betrayals, the deaths. At every turn, signs whispered that she was living the wrong life—celestial messages from God that often appeared during serendipitous encounters with a tiger at a small North Carolina ranch.

Chasing Tigers in the Dark: Life Lessons of a Fierce Survivor (Second Edition) is a raw, intimate survivor memoir that revisits the author’s harrowing past with unflinching clarity while illuminating the hope, love, and purpose that emerged from the wreckage. This updated edition features a new final chapter that adds deeper reflection, expanded life lessons, and a hard-earned sense of clarity that comes only from confronting trauma head-on.

This is the story of an underdog who transformed relentless adversity into a life of strength and significance, rising from the ashes of repeated loss to become a successful multi-unit franchise leader in the world’s #1 pizza brand, a motivational speaker, and the fiercely devoted mother of a beautifully blended family of seven.

In these pages, Ally Shaw invites readers to redefine the labels that once confined them, to stop living as casualties of their own lives, to confront trauma with honesty, and to uncover the fierce tiger within. With compassion and candor, she leads us out of the shame shadows where we have hidden for far too long. Chasing Tigers in the Dark is both a mirror and a map, guiding us from victimhood to empowerment, from silence to voice, and from survival to a life of fierce, joyful purpose.
