A very scarce, limited edition reference work on the drawings in the collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps, noted English antiquary and book collector. In brown cloth with gilt crest of Fenwick coat of arms. This is a complete work of reference containing all of the drawings in the private collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792 - 1872), 1st Baronet. He bought Thirlestaine House in Cheltenham for the purpose of housing his antiquary collections, which was in the possession of his family until 1947.This book was compiled by Arthur E. Popham, former Deputy Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. He was a British art historian, mainly focused on Italian art and became especially renowned for his catalogue work.This work was privately published by T. Fitzroy Fenwick, Sir Thomas Phillipps's grandson. Only one hundred and fifty copies were printed, of which this work is no. seventeen.Illustrated throughout with facsimiles of items from Sir Thomas Phillipps's collection. Bound in brown cloth with gilt design to the front board. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear. Internally, front hinge is slightly tender but remaining firm. Some spotting to the fore-edge, not affecting the pages, which are bright and clean. Near Fine.
