Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Two Volumes. Oversized hardcovers. Bound of black cloth over boards with gold lettering on front covers and spines. Covers are clean with light rubbing at crown and foot of spines, wrapped in protective mylar. Binding is tight and secure. Deckled edges, golden top-edge. Pages are generally clean and bright with some light toning and spotting. With forty plates, one hundred and fifty-eight text illustrations and seventy plans. Volume One: 475 pages. Volume Two: 448 pages. Title pages dated 1896. Signed in both volumes on front endpapers by Edward E. Salisbury (b. 1814 - d. 1901), a professor of Arabic and Sanskrit at Yale as well as the president of the American Oriental Society. Salisbury inscribes the books to his wife Evelyn, dated April 6th 1898. Later owner Chris Sterling's name is written in top corner of each front endpaper. A very nice set. This volume comes from the Castles and Forts collection of Chris Sterling, a longtime professor at George Washington University. Sterling was an avid book collector with a wide-range of interests; we are proud to house this collection, part of the extensive library which is his legacy. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…
