The biggest dilemma for most quilters is where to start when they want to break away from a traditional block or prescribed design and build something original for themselves. The aim of this book is to increase the confidence in people who already know the basics of quilting and patchwork and who want to create new designs. By reviewing basic principles of design and colour, this book helps readers find sources of inspiration and ways of developing a theme. The quilter will be able to experimentwith new methods of self-expression in paper and cloth, and then take this further with ideas for stitch and embellishment. Included throughout are "Artists Hints" which give additional important information and the "Design Classes" which contain useful templates and provide valuable creative exercises that can be used in future projects.
