Cloth, 4to, 26 cm, xiii, 359 pp, 147 ills. From the blurb: "The Brothers Dalziel, originally published in 1901, is a classic source book which has for long been unobtainable. Yet, as Graham Reynolds points out in his foreword to this facsimile reprint, 'it remains indispensable. It is a first-hand account of a busy, active and talented artistic circle, an anthology of admirable engravings, and a characteristic embodiment of the Dalziels' ideas of book production'. The Dalziels were outstandingly the greatest engravers of the years around 1860. During the half-century which this book covers they were responsible for reproducing the work of, amongst many others, Millais, Holman Hunt, Ford Madox Brown, Rossetti, Burne-Jones, Boyd Houghton, Birket Foster, Fred Walker, J. W. North, G. J. Pinwell and Sir John Gilbert. Above all, they are remembered today for their engravings of Tenniel's Alice illustrations. As an account of the working relationship between artist and engraver in the years from 1840 to 1890; as a collection of engravings not infrequently finer than the drawings they interpret; for its check list of the books with which the Dalziel Brothers were associated: for all these reasons this long long overdue reprint will be valued by collectors, dealers and amateurs of a period which has now returned to full favour." Near Fine in price-clipped dustwrapper and a slightly rubbed rexine slipcase. Buchnummer des Verkäufers ABE-33922
