In the Promised Future, Aboba MacCool, a Supersoldier and the last POW after winning the time war, liberated from the horrific dungeons of Alcazar Betelgeuse, a black hole fortress ruled by the sinister Flamemiser, the thief of stars, finds himself a stranger in his own land. Back in the utopian city of Suburbia, where abundance reigns but everyone must work, Aboba struggles to reconcile his past as a mighty warrior with his new role as a veterinarian.

As he grapples with the changes in his family and the mysterious absence of his parents, Aboba faces another challenge: his greatest rival from the time war, Ivan Kratkii, now lives in the same town, and even worse he's friends with his twin sister: Llahali. The tension between them simmers beneath the surface as they navigate the delicate balance of post-war life. He learns that the hardest battle of all is finding one's place in a world that has moved on without him. As he picks up the pieces of his shattered existence, Aboba must confront the painful truth that sometimes, after fighting the time war, you can never truly come home.

Here and not-quite-now, the overtaxed and laughable zombie story is made horrifying again, a plague ravages society and it teeters on the brink of total collapse, as the population dwindles Canada is annexed by the United States and renamed East Alaska. The origins of the plague is unknown, some say its a brain parasite, others thinks its caused by cats, even the name keeps changing: first Bedlam fever, then Caligari virus, and now it's Sleepwalker Syndrome; but this plague doesn't kill people and turn them into undead corpses with gnashing teeth, but instead homicidal somnambulists while asleep, that will return to their normal selves upon waking up, as long as they wake-up on their own.

Amid this chaos, Melody Furukawa recovers from the virus and finds to her horror, her beloved husband Bruce, has contracted the virus and is now confined to a hospital ward where the new "Death Jury" in Colorado, demands Bruce's vivisection in a desperate search for a cure, and also, to not be a drain on the already broken system. Driven by love and sheer determination, Melody exploits a loophole in visiting hours by reading to Bruce from a series of books all night, delaying the vivisection while she grows increasingly exhausted. Her struggle mirrors a Canadian "1001 Arabian Nights", filled with heart-wrenching emotion and the relentless fight to keep hope alive in the face of insurmountable odds of a callous system in a chaotic era.

Together, these stories weave a narrative of bravery, love, and the human spirit's struggle against overwhelming challenges, showcasing the indomitable strength and hope that drive individuals to fight for their loved ones and their future.
