Beschreibung:

Cloth, 8vo, 25 cm, xxx, 628, [1] pp. 108 entries. From the introduction: "The Modern Age profiles 108 titles. In choosing among the plethora of titles, several principles of selection, not mutually exclusive, have been applied: the literary importance of editors and contributors; the influence of the magazine on its time; the subjects and issues it defended, attacked, or promulgated; and, to suggest the character of the publishing enterprise in any age, the notably eccentric behavior or policies of some editors and contributors. Some purely "literary" magazines have been excluded because they produced work of little value; while others, for whom literary affairs were merely ancillary interests, attracted some of the most important literary figures of the time. A. R. Orage's New English Weekly, for example, was founded essentially to promote the Social Credit scheme of C. H. Douglas; but it is remembered today as the first publisher of Dylan Thomas's poetry and of T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets." Near Fine. Buchnummer des Verkäufers
