Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Hardcover. Brown cloth with blindstamped decorations & gold lettering and emblem on the front cover. Title on the cover and spine is Boy's Own Book Extended. No date on the title page or copyright page. Gift inscription on the front endpaper New Years Day 1857. First page after the title page in page 7/8. Then there are a few missing sheets; it resumed with page 19. Continues without any more missing pages. 354 pages + long index. Rules for games, tips for catching and raising pets and all sorts of games and activities. The very next page is the table of contents for a book of parlour magic. This first page is number 9. Pages 15/16 are missing. pages 17-191 are here, as they should be. Then comes Paul Preston's Book of Gymnastics, with its own title page (Boston. Munroe & Francis). No date. 168 pages, ending with stilts. No rear free endpaper. Appears to be three separate volumes bound together - but it has the appearance of having been done by the publisher itself, with new cover made for the collection. Measures an unusual 5 x 6.25 inches. Illustrated throughout. Some signatures loose but all attached. A wonderful collection of 19th century games and activities. The Publisher, Francis, reprinted versions of this book in NY, Philadelphia and Boston, all with slightly different names, all through the mid 19th century. I cannot find any copies to match this 'Extended' version. Please email with questions or to request photos.…
