This text follows David and Judy Steel on a tour of the Scottish Borders, since 1965 the location of their home and Steel's consituency. It features the rivers, woodland and hills of this region, which has for centuries been of strategic importance, to rievers and kings alike, with bloody feuds and battles. The Borders region has also provided a cultural legacy for Scotland, and the authors' journey includes such places as Floors Castle and Traquair House.
