This book is to elaborate the basic concepts and terminology beneath the study of mathematical modeling of population dynamics. Here, we provide basic facts of the mathematical modeling of species interactions in the ecosystem with the intent of fostering a better understanding of concepts and analyses. We begin with the introduction to various types of species interaction followed by formulation of mathematical models depicting their behavior. Ordinary differential equation (ODE) models and methods of stability analysis of these models are explained herewith in detail. An historical overview of Lotka-volterra prey-predator models and its stability analysis are of particular emphasis.
