"In the beginning, Bob didn't plan to start a religion; it just happened."So begins a wild and fantastic romp through the fictional Free Nation, satirizing religious fanaticism, politics, and human fumbling. The plot is driven by a host of quirky characters: Bob, a middle aged blank slate living in the Northwest region who first converses with his dog and then with God; nineteen year old Sophia Wise whose life goal is to cover her entire body with tattoos; Roland Brand, a chameleon whose ascension to power becomes progressively more outrageous; and Delbert Thorne, the Chosen Leader of the Free Nation who conducts a continuously fruitless search for a Secretary of Religion and who bears a striking resemblance to another idiotic world leader from recent history. The Book of Bob dashes drunkenly through the house of mirrors of Western culture, dissecting with pinpoint precision the absurdity, tragedy, and hilarity of the human race.
Über die Autorinnen und Autoren:
Paul Chasman has been a professional guitarist, teacher, and composer his entire adult life. He recorded his first album in 1979, and now has a dozen full-length releases in his name. In May 2003, following the United States' invasion of Iraq, Chasman wrote a letter to President George W. Bush telling him he liked the Dixie Chics and suggested he check them out. He signed the letter, Carl Estrada. The next day, Carl wrote another letter to President Bush giving him the heads-up that his American flag lapel pin was crooked. So began a year-and-a-half of daily letter writing during which Carl Estrada, Brad Cahoon, and a cast of characters wrote letters of advice and constructive criticisim to the famous, the infamous, and the 'current administration.'" Chasman set up a web site: www.thecarlletters.com on which he posted his letters and subsequent replies. During the 2004 American presidential elections, Chasman put his guitars in the closet to devote his full time to the Carl Letters and other political activities. The day after the elections, Paul Chasman began writing The Book of Bob.
