Converting biomass to biofuels involves hydrolyzing cellulose to sugars using cost-intensive commercial enzymes – an expensive step that makes large-scale production economically non-viable. As such, there is a need for low-cost bioprocessing.
This book critically evaluates the available bioprocessing technologies for various biofuels, and presents the latest research in the field. It also highlights the recent developments, current challenges and viable alternative approaches to reduce the overall cost of producing biofuels.
Dr. Manish Srivastava is an expert on the synthesis of nanomaterials and their application as catalysts for development of electrode materials in energy storage, biosensors and biofuel productions. He is currently a member of the DST INSPIRE faculty at the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi, India. He worked as a post doctorate fellow at the Department of BIN Fusion Technology, Chonbuk National University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, India. His research interests include the synthesis of nanostsructured materials and their applications as catalysts for the development of electrode materials in energy storage, biosensors and biofuel production. He has published 45 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored several book chapters and filed 1 patent.
Dr. P.K. Mishra is an expert on biofuel production, microbial bioprocessing and enzyme technologies, and is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, India. He has authored/co-authored over 60 technical papers published in respected national/international journals, has received several awards and honors, and holds 5patents with and 1 technology transfer. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers India.
