What can a binman teach us about life?

When Ivan Goslett took a job collecting refuse in rural Lincolnshire while studying philosophy, theology, and ethics, he thought he was simply earning a living. What he discovered instead was a deeper understanding of people, purpose, and the hidden wisdom found in everyday life.

From quiet village lanes and early morning collections to encounters with wildlife, conversations with strangers, and reflections on faith, mortality, generosity, and human dignity, The Binman Philosopher is a warm, insightful, and often humorous exploration of what it means to be human.

Drawing on real experiences from working on the bins, Ivan challenges assumptions about success, status, and happiness, revealing that some of life's most profound lessons are often found in the most ordinary places. Whether reflecting on childhood innocence, social inequality, community spirit, or the search for meaning, he invites readers to see the world through fresh eyes.

Part memoir, part philosophy, and part social commentary, The Binman Philosopher is a heartfelt celebration of ordinary people, everyday kindness, and the unexpected wisdom hidden within daily life.

Thought-provoking, compassionate, and deeply human, this book reminds us that the answers to life's biggest questions are often found where we least expect them.
