Most of the books about grief focus on the first six to twelve months after a loss. This one is for those who find themselves past the initial waves of grief but are struggling as they try to figure out a new direction in life. Author and grief counselor, Thomas John Dennis, D. Min., LCPC, CT, shares the wisdom he’s learned from listening to his clients share their struggles with loss and the life transition that follows. For Dennis, dragons are metaphors for all the challenges people face as they journey through life’s uncharted waters. He suggests that rituals are an ancient form of magic that we can use to charm the dragons we encounter. He argues, although dragons can never be completely controlled or conquered, we can learn to befriend them. Practical and playful, this little book offers an unconventional approach to learning your way into the next phase of life. In part one Dennis identifies some of the challenges likely to be encountered in the search for hope and meaning and offers helpful tips for navigating in the unknown. In part two he shares three short stories that illustrate how, for those who dare to sail beyond their comfort zone and make friends with their dragons, a brighter future awaits.
