When Father James Keller founded The Christophers in 1945, he chose an ancient Chinese proverb as the motto, the credo, for the movement: It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. Father Keller wrote the first Three Minutes a Day book of daily reflections in 1949, believing that the most effective exterior action had to come from a strong interior spirituality.The popular series has continued for fifty years.
