What if your neighbors weren’t just people… but unforgettable personalities on four legs?

When the narrator moves into her dream attic surrounded by quiet countryside, she imagines a life of beauty, solitude, and inspiration. What she doesn’t expect is a neighborhood ruled by animals—each with a story, a voice, and a soul as vivid as any human’s.

From Peter, the aging philosopher of moonlit dog choruses, to Matthew, the refined “nose” who judges perfumes like a Parisian expert; from Leonard the rebellious rocker to Masha the devoted babysitter, these companions form a vibrant, emotional tapestry of life, love, and survival. Cats with royal attitudes, holiday dogs, tragic romances, unlikely heroes—and even a mysterious toad—bring humor, tenderness, and reflection into everyday moments.

Through these stories, Barking at Heaven becomes more than a collection of animal portraits. It is a meditation on community, resilience, and the quiet connections that shape our lives. With wit and warmth, Natascia Gec reminds us that sometimes, in the simple act of barking at the moon, we are really reaching for something greater.

A charming, poignant, and often whimsical tribute to the creatures who live beside us—and the humanity they reflect back.
