Dear brother - I embrace this; the earliest op portunity of communicating to you, that on the 9th m~ Stant, fifteen days out, we fell in with and captured the fine copper bottoined ship Yetius, v essel and cargo worth at hat dollarsr On the 12th put suing our course and within fite days ofyou'r place, 11 e were captured by his majesty' s sloop Moselle George bray, commander, and brought into this place. Remained on board the sloop two or three day s, and on the 19th were transferred from thence to the prison ship where we are now imprisoned, with an allowance of 6 oz. Of bread, 3 gills df rice, 8 032. 'of the worst of, beef, including bone, which is as much as meat, with as much brackish water as we can use arded day and night by', 10 or 15 savage Afticans,vt1 10 are total strangers to humanity, and confined entry evening at sun down, not to be, released until next morning at sun rise; abused to the lowest degree by the guard, and compelled t3c3>3fi131d salt for, and cook our own victuals; yrith greenlmangoes None of us are ever permitted, under any condition whatever, to Visit the shores, with many. Other bnarb'aious acts, which are too numerous to describe. This will be conveyed by the cartel 'sldop; captain Cooper, 136113111; the second cartel which has sail ed since our arrival here. A schobn'e 3 was only allowed 8 ineii, and Cooper whb brought 64 1 prisoners, is only allow ed 18 in return, while we, 18 in number, are detained in this miserable place; for '11hi30h we cannot assign any reason, 'except to punish us as pri vateersmen, or as hostages for those 12 lately detained in Charleston this last 3is the general belie3,f and as such, I deem a communication of the cicmstance's essential to commodore Dent,3commander of the south-3, ern station, that he may lookto it and enquire the cause why Americans are to be detained how two or three months, while more prisoners have been received here,'
