The perfect baby shower gift for the expecting mom in your life, birthday gift, or for snuggling up at bedtime to express the love you have for the children in your lives through stories you will remember! Babies, toddlers and older children will love to learn about different animals and how they care for their babies!

Here is a love poem uniquely combined with nonfiction that explores how parents―both human and non-human―guide their young ones.

If you were my baby squirrel,
I would welcome you to the world
In a secret nest I made just for you.

The illustrations are gentle and magical―"simple but visually luxurious," as the illustrator intended. The featured species are squirrel, otter, bear, opossum, deer, duck, bison, wolf, fox, beaver, skunk, mountain goat, bat, and (of course) humans. A comforting, sweet-dream book for nature lovers!

If You Were My Baby was inspired by at least three generations of women. Fran Hodgkins' mother taught her to love nature, and how to watch and "really see." An early memory of Fran is watching for hours as a spider built a web on her tire swing. Now as a mother, Fran passed her love of wild things on to her daughter Rosie "without even really thinking about it." From their backyard in Lynn, Massachusetts, to the beach, to the forest, they watch-and Rosie inspired this book through her questions about nature and animals.
