Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Association copy. First edition, first printing in supplied first issue dust jacket, unclipped with small tear in top of front panel, slightly edge-worn and spine-sunned, Very Good overall. x, 251 pp. Original navy cloth with gilt spine lettering. A few small stains in text. Pioneering Dutch linguist P.A. Verburg's copy with his stamp on front endpaper; his marginal notes, underlines, and small diagrams are throughout text in pen and pencil. Verburg (1905-1989) examined the history of linguistics in 1952 with his Taal En Functionaliteit, translated most recently in English in 1998 as Language and Its Functions. Chomsky's work along similar lines with Aspects and the following year's Cartesian Linguistics would garner much more attention worldwide, influencing the fields of linguistics and philosophy for decades. Verburg's marginal impressions in this copy should provide insight of an important, if oft-neglected predecessor's impressions of Chomsky's breakthrough work. Artikel-Nr. 170209004
