ARCANE: secret or mysterious - known or understood by few

When short-story author Michael Jeffers returned to his quiet hometown following his father’s untimely death, he had wanted nothing more than to pay his respects and leave.

Now, two years later he’s still there, working as a Deputy Sheriff, struggling to move forward with a writing career that won’t so much as budge, and trying like hell to stay out of the crosshairs of his boss, the conniving Sheriff, Bill Carlson.

But all of that changes when a dark visitor named Samuel wanders into town, bringing with him a string of arcane occurrences that have the townsfolk swept up in awe.

Jeffers, along with Cami, a mysterious Deputy who has recently transferred to his office, is thrust headfirst into a whirlwind of horrors he’s never imagined, a past that he can’t forget, and promises that refuse to let him go.

J. Douglas Stephenson was born in Chillicothe, Ohio in the summer of 1983, the eldest son of Scott and Jamie Stephenson. At a young age, he discovered a knack for writing and took to honing his craft for a number of years afterward. In 2004, he joined the United States Air Force, where he continues to serve overseas as a Staff Sargent. His written work can be found in a variety of anthologies, magazines, and journals. When he isn’t writing, he enjoys fishing, reading, and spending time with his wife, Ashley, and his two daughters, Kendal and Nevarha. Currently, he is stationed in The Netherlands where he is completing work on his third novel.
