But  tears turn to laughter when Anne and her friends move  into an old cottage and an ornery black cat steals  her heart. Little does Anne know that handsome  Gilbert Blythe wants to win her heart, too. Suddenly  Anne must decide if she's ready for love...

Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, and raised by her grandparents in nearby Cavendish, where the Island's landscapes, books, and her vivid imagination inspired a lifetime of storytelling. Educated at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she taught school before caring for her grandmother in Cavendish from 1898 to 1911 while publishing poems and stories in Canadian and American magazines. Her first novel, Anne of Green Gables, became an immediate success, followed by seven Anne novels as well as beloved classics including Emily of New Moon and Pat of Silver Bush. L. M. Montgomery died in Toronto in 1942, but it is her early years on lush green Prince Edward Island that live on in the delightful adventures of the impetuous redhead, the stories Mark Twain called “the sweetest creation of child life yet written."
