Do Angels Wear Overalls? And More Stories of Divine Intervention from a Missionary Life
In Do Angels Wear Overalls? Hilda Bradney shares the story of her remarkable heritage and life against a backdrop of God’s constant loving and miraculous intervention in the lives of His children. Born into a missionary family in Calcutta in the final years of the British Raj, Hilda’s nomadic upbringing spanned WW2 India, years of separation from her parents, itinerant tent evangelism across Australia, and four continents. Settling in the United States as a pastor’s wife and mother of three, she uprooted again to spend decades with husband Bill serving God in Latin America.
God’s protection from thieves, bandits, military coups, and dangerous roads. God’s angels showing up in overalls, as an elderly doctor, plane passenger, optician, even a Mayan tribal chief. Miraculous financial provision and physical healings. To such wonderfully routine personal anecdotes, Hilda bears astonishing front-row witness of God’s intervention, perfect timing, and transformation among the homeless and impoverished, drug addicts and demon possessed, murderers and war hostages, abused children and abusing parents. Not just one missionary couple’s exciting memoir, this book offers a vivid overview of the unprecedented movement of God’s Spirit across Latin America within the last generation and is a powerful reminder that "impossible" is not in God’s vocabulary.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Born in India to British missionaries Harold and Hilda Groves, author, professor, conference speaker, and missions veteran Hilda Bradney served with her husband Bill with the Assemblies of God for more than fifty years, including in the United States, Costa Rica, and Paraguay, and as chair and adjunct professor of the University of Valley Forge’s Department of Intercultural Studies. Now “retreaded” in Lancaster County, PA, the Bradneys continue serving God in their local community and enjoy spending time with their three children and spouses, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
