Über diesen Titel:
'Bristed's account provides under a new title an unusual and frequently very funny snapshot of Victorian Cambridge. (...) His intelligence and wit, and the peculiar sympathy of his character, make this an invaluable reprint of a unique and accessible account.' --Times Literary Supplement
'Christopher Stray has done a brilliant job of unburdening and illuminating Bristed's text. (...) Drawing copiously on his own expert knowledge both of Classics and Cambridge, his introduction and notes give ample context from most of Bristed's introverted obsessions and turn them into useful evidence for a better understanding of elite education in Victorian Britain.' --Times Higher Education
'Bristed has much to offer not only those scholars and students working on the history of education, but equally those whose field is 'the history of the book' and, more particularly, the history of reading. Because Bristed's prose is so accessible, the book's potential classroom uses are intriguing, as well: I can easily imagine it as an assigned text in a history survey class on Victorian Britain, or, for that matter, in a graduate-level Victorian literature seminar, as background reading for the study of such fictional accounts of student life as Thomas Hughes's Tom Brown at Oxford and Cuthbert Bede's The Adventures of Mr Verdant Green.' --Dr Patrick Leary, author of the Foreword

Anbieterinformationen: We have been selling academic and scholarly books in Cambridge since 1996. Today we occupy an old warehouse on Coldhams Road, adjacent to the railway tracks leading to Ely, not too far from the airport. The site is called Restwell House. We are an internet bookshop, but visitors are very welcome. Some drop off a few boxes of unwanted books, some pick up a book to save on the postage, some just drop by to get to know us, or want to take advantage of the many bargains on our wooden shelves bookshop, which is distinct from the internet stock offered on the web. Our mission has always been to find new homes for the books we are looking after. If we cannot sell them online, we offer them at very low prices to our visitors. We try to give you a serious and dedicated service which is focussed on the individuality of each single book: its condition, its origin, sometimes even its smell. You come to us for real books, not just instances of ISBNs.
