Chapter One

I love the United States. This narrative is about the name America, naming of America, and American Democracy, Capitalism, and Economy. Historically, it is well known that the name America, given to the New World, is based on the first name of Amerigo Vespucci—an Italian navigator and cartographer.

It is falsely assumed that Vespucci was the true discoverer of the New World known as the Unites States of America.

Sorry to disappoint you, my dear Americans, but Vespucci is all wrong. I'm calling you the Americans for now, knowing well that the names America and Americans are based on complete falsehoods!

In the year 1507, two individuals, who were not Americans, were the first to use the name America. One of them was a cartographer. In a geographic drawing, this individual wrote in large letters, on a map that he drew, the word America.

He was under the impression, or falsehood, that Amerigo Vespucci was the true and the only discoverer of the New World.

Let me pause here, before I continue to tell you the entire truth about the New World and the naming of America.

You see, I came from Montenegro, a small country in Europe. For you, my reader, who may not be familiar with Montenegro and Montenegrins, I will take a little liberty, and offer you some information about it.

Before I do that, I would like to tell why I love the United States. The use of the word United is widespread. It is used in many organizations of all kinds. What interest us is its use for countries and associations of countries such as United Nations.

Here are some countries that use the word United, for example: UK, or United Kingdom, United Emirates, of course United States and others. Even the country Yugoslavia was in a way named united. Here is how:

After the World War One, all south Slavs decided to join together in a united country. Instead of calling it United Slavs, they named it Yugoslavia. The reason why the Slavs selected this name?

You see, Jug in Serbian language, means south. Add South—Jug—to Slavs, and Serbianize the name, you will get Yugoslavia. In Serbian language it is Jugoslavia. J in Serbian is pronounced as Y. It comes from the Greek letter Jota, and it is pronounced as if it were Y.

A good friend of mine, by the name of Bernie, is an American. Let me explain why I like him very much, and why I like the United States through him!

Bernie is an exceptionally intelligent man. His knowledge is almost akin to an encyclopedia. When I met him for the first time, he was employed by a substantial American Corporation, which had an outlet in Canada.

I met Bernie on a golf course, where I was a member of long standing. Bernie, too, likes golf. As a matter of fact, he is crazy about golf. In all fairness, I think he is crazier about it than I am.

Faith or chance meeting was responsible that we both were teamed up in the same golf foursome. My golf course, (it's not exactly mine), is very beautiful—a real delight for any avid golfer.

The Course is strictly private. There is a long list of applications of individuals who wanted to become the permanent members.

Even after waiting a long time, the applicant must be well known by at least two existing members of good standing, who were willing to guarantee that the new applicant was of good character, financially stable, and that had no arrests or any other problems with the laws of the land.

Besides, the entry fee for the membership of this golf club is substantial. It is much more than the average yearly wages of typical American wage earners!

Bernie was highly recommended by three well established members of the Club of good standing. Somehow, he didn't have to wait long. Due to his excellent characteristics, he was accepted by the Golf Course Board, and became an accredited member of this prestigious golf club.

Perhaps you noticed that I called your beautiful country as United States? In the beginning of this narrative, I have used sparingly the word America. There is a good reason for that.

You see, the word America came from the name of an Italian navigator and the map cartographer known by his Italian name as Amerigo Vespucci.

Some strangers who lived in Florence, Italy, assumed without checking the facts that Amerigo Vespucci was the true discoverer of the New World, later named America.

Let me correct myself quickly. No some American bigwigs named your country United States as America. The truth is that two fairly influential individuals, residing in Florence, Italy, of non-American origins did that.

Do you know really who named your country America?

When I tell you that, and reveal the historical truth about the person or persons who named America, you will be, at least, astonished—perhaps somewhat offended.

Chapter Two

Please, lend me a bit of your patience. I will explain it all after I tell you about Bernie, my good American friend.

First, I'll tell you some details about your great American citizen Bernie. I would have given you his family name, which is of the Italian origin, but I couldn't.

Number one reason is that Bernie doesn't know about this narrative. Eventually, I would have to show it to him, after my book becomes published and well known.

Number two reason is, for the sake of maintaining his privacy, I must decline to name him by his full name. Even after this book will be out and running, I plan to stick with his first name only.

I will mention a few other individuals by their first names, some of which might have been my friends,. They will know who they were.

Some people might guess who Bernie was when they read my book. I leave that to the chance and the faith. I believe what will be, will be. The Italian song said it best: "Che sara, sara."

I assure you that this fact will not change my commentary about the deep friendship between Bernie and me. You won't lose anything. In Broken English, this phrase would be: You not lose nothing!

Did I mention that I speak the Broken English fluently? I really do. If any among you ever needed a translator to translate English into the Broken English, or vice versa, I could help.

Do you know who discovered America? I'm not sure what your school teachers taught you about the discovery of the United States.

I will dwell about it in this narrative. I promise that what I will write here is the truth, noting but the truth. You can trust me on that.

You see, being Montenegrin, I must speak the truth. If I didn't, I would lose not only my face, but my honor as well.

You may have learned in your American schools that the only genuine discoverer of the New World was the famous navigator and discoverer—Christoforo Colombo!

He, too, was an Italian. Your ancestors accepted the wrong name with which somebody, in fact, two men in 1507 baptized your famous Country as America.

If they have used the first name of the assumed and perpetrated discoverer of the New World—Christoforo Colombo—the America would have been Christofora, Christofa, Christofia, if you would have insisted to make her name Italian and feminine.

If, however, you would have used his last name, America would have been Colomba, Colombia, or Colombo—a feminine or a masculine name.
