Über diesen Titel

After her "always and forever friend" Meg moves away, Wendy discovers that finding another friend so special will not be easy.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 3-5 Eleven-year-old Wendy is ex periencing most of sixth grade without her best friend, who has moved away. To compound her misery, her mother has recently married a man with a dif ficult teenage daughter and two wild younger sons. Wendy's first attempts to befriend Honor, a black classmate, are met with seeming coldness and in difference, until, at the end of the book, the two do become friends. Wendy realizes then that the friend she was seeking had been there all along. This is not a bad friendship sto ry, but there are some problems with characterizations and plot. The remar ried family with the troubled teenager, the black girl with a chip on her shoul der, the weird hyper kid in class, and the nasty popular girls crowd the story with too many issues. The melodrama is exacerbated by often syrupy prose such as ``a world so beautiful it hurt'' and ``She looked so teddy bear fun ny.'' Wendy is overdrawn as the goody-two-shoes, and this makes her difficult to like. Some better choices for this age group about making friends are Betsy Byars' The Cybil War (Viking, 1981) and The Pinballs (Harper, 1977), Constance Greene's A Girl Called Al (Viking, 1969), Patricia Hermes' Kevin Corbett Eats Flies (HBJ, 1986), and Betty Miles' The Trouble with Thirteen (Knopf, 1979).
