You're viewing the Teacher Copy of the 2025 Alpha-Phonics PLUS edition, which includes the additional phonemic awareness, pre-reading supplement, along with the Original 1983 Classic Edition of the famed "Samuel Blumenfeld Alpha-Phonics: A Primer for Beginning Readers". The supplement includes Letter Sound Charts, Blending Drills (decoding), Enunciation Drills and Extra Word Lists.
Since 1983 Alpha-Phonics has been used mostly by homeschoolers and has gained a solid reputation of reliability -- teaching hundreds of thousands of children to read. Now with the 2025 “PLUS” Edition, we are expanding our reach.
The 1983 Classic Version remains intact (within the PLUS edition), with Samuel Blumenfeld's helpful teaching instructions, information about how the Alphabet works, practical suggestions about teaching reading, and information about cursive handwriting. The reading exercises are still printed in large, eye-pleasing, hand-lettered calligraphy created by Marc Vachon for the Original “Classic” Edition. It also includes the Original Blumenfeld Lesson Plans and Instructions. It's the same proven, step-by-step intensive phonics program, but we've expanded the capacity of the Original by adding The Alpha-Phonics PLUS Supplement, created by Meg Rayborn Dawson.
The supplement benefits those readers who previously failed at learning to read, by offering additional exercises and drills which aid in the development of neuro-networks associated with reading phonetically -- as opposed to pictorially. In other words, students who have previously learned only to memorize whole words as pictures, will now be able to start again using phonics, which is the way an alphabet is made to be used.
Science has spoken out on the issue of reading, and the verdict is in. The best and most reliable way to learn to read English is by learning what sounds letters represent and then blending those sounds together to make words.
You will find our Student Copy of Alpha-Phonics PLUS on Amazon as well. The student copy contains the Original Blumenfeld lessons, plus the supplement, but the lesson plans and instructions have been omitted. Using the Teacher and Student Copies together, Alpha-Phonics can now be used more efficiently in group settings.
So, go ahead. Be a hero. Teach your students to read.
