A lovely edition of the fables of Aesop, strikingly bound by Eric Sweet, with the plates of Ernest Griset. Rebound in a quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards, with renewed endpapers, bound by Eric Sweet, in a custom cloth chemise and custom cloth slipcase. Sweet's bookplate to the front paste down. He studied at the Brighton College of Art, before moving to London to work as a lettering artist and typographer for advertising agencies, later becoming the head of Birmingham School of Printing. Sweet's bindings are unique and striking, reflecting the topics of the volumes in distinctive style.Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. In a modern quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards, in a custom cloth chemise and slipcase, bound by Eric Sweet. Externally, fine, with a very small patch of rubbing to the head of the front joint. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a few light handling marks, mostly to the title page, and scattered spots. Reinforcement to the gutter to the first and last few pages. Small tape repair to the title page. Light marks to the chemise and slipcase, both in a near fine condition. Near Fine.
