Ely, Minnesota, February 1976. The Iron Range is buried in snow, and Toivo-"Fitz" to everyone but his mother-spends his winters spending time with his crew, fishing for splake through the ice, and coming home to his black Labrador, Ninamoose. It's a quiet life, and he likes it that way. Then Sarah walks into Cookie's Bar-annoyed, gorgeous, and absolutely done with men who can't stop staring-and his quiet life stops being an option. Sarah has exactly one plan: Earn her own money, answer to no one, and never again be the kind of woman who needs a man to feel secure. She doesn't have room for an easygoing, big-hearted outdoorsman who makes her laugh when she doesn't want to. But Ely is a small town, gossip travels faster than the wind over the tundra, and Fitz keeps showing up anyway. Then, deep in the Superior National Forest, a storm-toppled white pine uncovers rusted coffee cans stuffed with silver dollars and gold coins-the forgotten life savings of a man who died alone on the Range half a century before. What Fitz decides to do with that fortune will force him to reckon with everything he believes about security, sacrifice, and what he's willing to risk for a woman who insists she doesn't need saving. Set across one Bicentennial summer of campfires, hockey talk, and a short, fierce northern spring, No Home on the Iron Range is a slow-burn love story about two people in the same small town who want very different things out of life-and the broken societal promises that force them both to decide what they're willing to give up to keep each other.

Rob Johnstone is a Navy vet, master woodworker, editor and author. Having lived through grim times of addiction and loss, as well as times of amazing blessings, he brings that breadth of experience to his first novel, set in northern Minnesota in the era of his youth. A husband, father and grandfather, Rob contends the very best of the human experience is the love and companionship of friends and family. (Made infinitely better by the companionship of a good hunting dog.)He has been a writer since his school days. For decades he blended his love of woodworking and writing as editor and publisher of Woodworker's Journal magazine. Rob can usually be found writing something, playing guitar, reading fiction and nonfiction books, often sitting on his couch with the head of his German Shorthair, Sidney, in his lap. When asked how he is doing he will regularly reply: "Better than I deserve ..." and he means it.
