HUMMINGBIRD

I glimpsed a hummingbird today
in my flowerbed to play
he flew into the succulent pink
almost violet I think

of my impatiens still in bloom
unaware of season's doom
impending, but, now, warm and mild
reminding me of a child

flitting toward the bright and sweet
engaging with what she might meet
always aware as breezes blow
where in the moment it's best to go

MAIZAPHOBIA

Uncle Fred was afraid of corn
Don't know why; just the way he was born
Deciding to concur his fears
Fred went and sat amongst the ears
But, he forgot about Hurricane Willy
The stalks proceeded to beat him silly
