At just nine years old, Alexes was introduced to the floral industry under the guidance of her late father, Bernard Haggins, owner of Colony Florist in Washington, DC. In 1991, her father renamed the business Flowers By Alexes in honor of his daughter, planting the seeds of a legacy that would one day come full circle. Watching her father manage the day-to-day operations of the shop gave Alexes more than business knowledge; it gave her vision, discipline, and a deep understanding of how to serve people through artistry and compassion.Although the original shop eventually closed after her father became ill, the dream never left her heart. Determined to continue the family legacy, Alexes later built a successful career as a licensed real estate agent, helping families achieve generational wealth through homeownership. Alexes used the success she earned in real estate and reopened Flowers By Alexes in 2021 on the very same block where her father once operated his floral shop, bringing new life to a legacy rooted in love, perseverance, and faith.Today, Flowers By Alexes remains a signature establishment within the Petworth community and throughout the District of Columbia. Beyond floral design, Alexes is passionate about uplifting others. She hosts Small Business Saturdays, providing free retail space to local entrepreneurs, teaches live floral workshops, and actively participates in community events and celebrations throughout the city.A proud native Washingtonian and devoted mother of four, Alexes continues to inspire through both her business and her story.
