Lila Giacopelli, the author of "Be True to Your Blue", was given the diagnosis of PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified) at the age of three. This diagnosis is often referred to as a "sub-threshold of autism" and encompasses many of the symptoms associated with ASD. Despite early medical prognoses that she would have limited abilities developmentally, cognitively, and otherwise, Lila has excelled in remarkable ways, proving those assessments false. In addition to being a highly awarded honors student, she is a writer, artist, actress, multi-linguist, serves as a member on a variety of community volunteer programs, and is an avid international traveler. Lila refuses to allow labels and diagnoses to define her future. As a result, her PDD-NOS related characteristics have set her apart and allowed her to realize significant accomplishments and accolades. Blue Lobster is a story about how the things that make us different can also be our greatest gifts and enable us to do great things. Blue Lobster encourages its reader to embrace uniqueness and celebrate differences. We all have characteristics, talents, and qualities that make us special. These unique attributes give us an opportunity to do and see things in a way that no one else can. Be True to Your Blue! It can be your superpower!
