She escaped the cartel—but can she outrun her darkest fears?
A Journalist Thriller Novel of Cartel Violence, Betrayal, and a Deadly Search for the Truth

The gripping sequel to Mountain Crossing, Becky is a high‑intensity blend of betrayal, resilience, and the unrelenting fight for justice—perfect for readers who love a journalist thriller novel packed with danger and emotional depth.

Bogotá, Colombia, Summer 1981—Becky Kendall and Michelle Talley believe they’ve finally outrun their past after surviving a deadly confrontation with Jamaican cocaine traffickers. Armed with five million dollars in drug profits, they hide out in a luxury condo in Bogotá—a fragile sanctuary at the center of a rising Bogotá crime mystery. But the shadows of their former lives refuse to stay buried.

As cartel violence erupts across the city, Becky and Michelle plan their return to Sarasota. Yet every move they make is tracked by Gordon Gecht, a ruthless enforcer determined to reclaim the money he believes is his. Teaming up with Pablo Escobar—Colombia’s King of Cocaine—Gecht launches a deadly game of cat and mouse that pushes the women to the edge of survival. What began as an escape becomes a full‑scale Colombia cartel crime thriller.

When investigative journalist Jack Kendall—Becky’s estranged husband—arrives in Bogotá to uncover what happened to the two women, he’s thrust into a high‑stakes investigative reporter mystery where trust is scarce, and danger is everywhere. Racing against time, Jack must navigate cartel strongholds, corrupt officials, and his own unresolved past as he hunts for Gecht in a city where every decision could be fatal.

As the violence escalates, Becky becomes a relentless crime action adventure, weaving together cartel warfare, personal redemption, and the brutal cost of survival. At its core lies a question neither Becky nor Jack can escape: how far will they go to reclaim their lives—and what will they lose along the way?

Praise for the Jack Kendall Mystery series:

A quick read full of twists and turns that extends the Jack Kendall franchise.
A Reedsy Review

Blending heart-pounding suspense with gripping drama, Becky is a tale of betrayal, resilience, and the unrelenting fight for justice. As the clock ticks, Jack must face his demons and confront a relentless killer—and a city with secrets deadlier than he ever imagined.
As this story opens, (Becky Kendall and Michelle Talley) are living in luxury on the proceeds of the cocaine operation, but danger lurks nearby. Gordon Gecht, a survivor of the drug gang, pursues them to Colombia to recover the money he believes is his.
A chase ensues, taking Becky and Michelle to the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá. As he did in his earlier book with the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, Greene describes the landscape and the cathedral in detail, making armchair travelers of his readers.
The action is fast-paced. The (30,000-word) novella contains plenty of action and a shocking development that turns the story on its ear. It ends with another cliff-hanger, telling us there is more to come in Jack Kendall’s career of journalism and adventure.

Great Sequel Book!
Becky is a sequel to Mountain Crossing by the same author. I was very curious to find out what was next for Becky after the ending to that book. This book answered that in spades and helped me better understand her life decisions. It also painted a picture well of what a dangerous place Colombia was at that point in time. And like Mountain Crossing, Becky leaves the reader wondering what's next at the end of the book. Highly recommend reading both books!
