When a mysterious stranger appears in the small fishing village of Playa Mariposa, Mexico, unsettling events start happening deep under the ocean.
The Kid has given up his real name because of an incredible secret he keeps inside him—he is actually not a real boy, but a shapeshifter sent from the past. When the Kid meets Ollie—a feisty young girl his age who lives above her mother’s beach restaurant—he is slowly drawn out of his reluctance to trust another person with his secret.
Ollie and the kid must join forces to save the town and the ocean’s creatures. After many close calls while escaping the clutches of this dangerous stranger, the Kid reveals to Ollie the reason that he arrived in her life.

Rick Thrun lives and writes along the Lake Michigan shore in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, Wisconsin. After attending art school in Milwaukee, Rick spent ten years as a freelance illustrator, and was partner, chief creative director, and brand storyteller at two Milwaukee creative agencies.Rick has illustrated five children's picture books. His illustrations have appeared in numerous magazines.Much of the support and inspiration for Ollie & the Kid came from his granddaughter, Poppy, who provided many plot ideas and character names.
