After meeting and falling in love, Justus and Anna have gotten married and moved into their new home. The first night in their new residence, Justus explores the unique library inside the home that is filled with old and rare books, where he finds and begins to read a mysterious book with a dragon emblazoned on the cover. Much to his amazement, Justus finds himself on a horse with a knight charging him. He is quickly knocked off his horse, forced to yield, and taken to the stronghold of a local noble. He is thrown together with a knight named Logan, who befriends him and teaches him the skills of a medieval warrior. Each night that Justus reads in this book, he is transported in his waking dreams to this medieval landscape that sweeps him up in the drama of battles, political intrigue, and betrayal. He is forced to fight for his life and for a king he has never met, making alliances and becoming a leader, finding himself outnumbered and facing the biggest threat the land has ever seen. Back in his everyday life, Anna falls ill and inescapably worsens quickly, until she lingers on the brink of death. Justus discovers a corpse of an ancient woman in a nearby cave and must discover how the woman, the book, and his waking dreams are all related, and it's a race against time to uncover the connection between them and his wife's mysterious illness.
