Through a series of flashbacks that cap off every chapter, we take our nihilistic, self-destructive main character and slowly bring him back to a time in his life when everything was perfect, in stark contrast with his "now," which is falling apart in the most deadly of ways. It does this with a dark sense of humor and character development that one may not expect from a book of this type.
