Inhaltsangabe

"A compelling page-turner woven with romance, long-buried secrets, and enduring love. . . . Through intimate diaries and letters, the author paints vivid scenes that make history pulse with life." — Jill G. Hall, author of On a Sundown Sea

FROM NAZI GERMANY TO BLITZ-TORN LONDON, a mother and daughter fight for love, safety, and resilience in this emotional work of WW2 historical fiction about women.

After years in a loveless marriage, recently widowed Clara finds comfort in music and memory. But as life for Jewish families in Nazi Germany becomes more perilous, she discovers unexpected romance and a renewed sense of self.

Her daughter Edith, unwilling to endure further persecution, leaves her first love behind and escapes to England, stepping into the uncertain world of prewar London.

Reunited shortly before the war begins, Clara and Edith rebuild their lives amid the dangers of the London Blitz, where emotional survival matters as much as physical safety. Will mother and daughter weather the stress of air raids, the mood swings of Edith’s erratic husband, and the demands of house and childcare? Will their bond sustain them, or will it crack under the pressure of wartime traumas?

Based on the true story of the author’s grandmother and aunt, Ashes and Ruins is women’s historical fiction readers will cherish—a poignant blend of love & loss, deep family ties, and everyday courage. A compelling work of historical family life, this stand-alone companion to Immigrant Soldier brings Clara and Edith vividly to life in an unforgettable mother–daughter saga.
