Terry McKnight is a retired law enforcement officer, multi-industry professional, and true-crime researcher. His deep personal connection to Texas law enforcement began at age 17, when a breaking news broadcast erroneously reported that his father, a Dallas County Deputy, had been killed in the infamous 1971 ambush known as the Trinity River Massacre. Though his father survived, the event sparked a lifelong dedication to documenting the case.McKnight went on to serve for thirteen years as a police officer with the Dallas Police Department. Following his law enforcement career, he successfully transitioned into automotive repair business ownership and later computer network administration.He began researching and recording interviews for this book in the early 1970s. Despite losing decades of early manuscript notes and tape recordings in a devastating 1998 business fire, he rebuilt his research from official court records, police archives, and primary sources. Now 72 years old and happily retired, Terry lives in Texas where he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, one son, and four granddaughters.
