A Journey of Discipleship, Suffering, and Lament

All humans suffer. While some religions and philosophies seek to deny, minimize, ignore, or otherwise separate suffering from our existence, Christians believe in and follow the God who chose to join us in this suffering and called us to become His disciples and follow Him. Instead of offering an easier path in which people could set our suffering aside and fulfill our desires, He called those who would follow Him in this journey of discipleship to deny themselves and take up their crosses. And rather than demanding sufferers to remain stoic or silent, Jesus calls us to join Him in lament, crying out to the only One who knows, sees, comforts, responds, and is sovereign in our suffering.

This is the journey to which Jesus calls sufferers, a journey He calls us to walk with Him and with others He brings alongside. I hope this book will assist those who seek to walk this journey by helping them understand and embrace the relationship between suffering, discipleship, and lament.
