Humans of Immigration Detention: Fighting for Freedom Behind Steel Bars and Concrete Walls follows the stories of three immigrants as they faced struggles and serious obstacles within the U.S. Immigration Detention System. It also includes a fourth story of a U.S. citizen who is unjustly incarcerated in a foreign country and prevented from seeing their family.
The purpose of this book is to shed light on the injustices within both America’s and foreign nations’ systems of immigration detention and spread awareness of them among middle and high school students. The book also includes a Q&A section at the end that uses answers directly taken from activists and those impacted by detention to understand how they feel about this system.
