(Up-dated April 2026) The Sweet was one of the most successful British glam rock bands of the 1970s.
Originally called The Sweetshop, the band’s classic four man line-up featured Andy Scott, Brian Connolly, Mick Tucker and Steve Priest.The Sweet released their debut single Slow Motion, in the UK only, in July 1968. Lollipop Man, All You’ll Ever Get From Me and Get On The Line followed in 1969-70, but the band had to wait until 1971 before they scored their first hit single with Funny, Funny.Later the same year,
The Sweet released their debut album, FUNNY HOW SWEET CO-CO CAN BE. But, while the band’s albums were only moderately successful, the big hit singles kept on coming, and included Little Willy, Wig-Wam Bam, Blockbuster, Hell Raiser, The Ballroom Blitz, Teenage Rampage, Fox On The Run, Action and Love Is Like Oxygen.After lead singer Brian Connolly left the band in early 1979,
