"So all the twists and turn and reveals in book 1? Yeah, still did nothing to prepare me for just how deep down the rabbit hole this book was going to go. This is hard sci-fi that tends to lean more philosophical and towards AI and neural networks than the physics side - though there is quite a bit of playing with physics. There is quite a bit of action too, especially with the Nesch. This book jumps between a few characters/locations which made it a faster paced book than 1. Way more going in in general and sometimes the motivations were, well, totally alien. So you have the overt goals and conflicts and then just layers of other motivations and history driving the action and characters. Really engrossing read." - Goodreads Reviewer

"Overall this book took everything great and intriguing from the first book and made it better. It should go without saying that you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY need to read the first book here, but book two jumps ahead seventy years, and really opens up the immense, impressive world building of book one. You get a lot more info and backstory on the Nesch (some of my favorite sci-fi creatures I think), the Alpuri, the Administration, the Breaker, the Source, plus more motivations on characters from the first book. Also, we get a pretty great villain. Another thing I really like about this book is the beginning. We get some pretty grisly, horror-adjacent stuff happening. Overall, the first book did a great job starting a new trilogy full of (at first) complicated ideas, ideologies, politics, species, and planets. Book two expands on them expertly, in some very interesting, mind-blowing, mind-altering, high-concept ways. To say I'm incredibly excited about book three would be an understatement.
